Confirm the brushed face and base fabric, not handfeel alone

A flannel configuration is defined by its base textile and brushing finish. During quotation, we set out the intended face and reverse construction, pile uniformity, acceptable base visibility, edge treatment and weight basis. The approval package combines face and reverse close-ups, a physical sample, measured size and weight, and applicable test documents. It gives production and receiving teams the same comparison reference.

9 industry tricks to avoid when buying bulk flannel blankets

These problems you will only find after receiving goods. Most suppliers will not tell you in advance, you can test by yourself in 10 seconds.

1. GSM fraud: Suppliers quote grey fabric GSM. After wash and shrink, finished GSM is only 150-160GSM when they quote 180GSM. How to test: Cut 10×10cm from middle of sample, wash and dry. 180GSM finished should be exactly 1.8g.
2. Uneven brushing, show base: Brushing only on surface, middle area thin. You can see through when hold up to light. How to test: Hold sample up to window light, no obvious light spot is qualified.
3. Narrow fabric cheating: Quote 150×200cm, actual finished size after wash is 145×195cm, cut 5cm from each side to save material. How to test: Measure sample edge to edge after wash, not before wash.
4. Cotton thread edge break: Use cheap cotton thread for edge, breaks after 2-3 washes. We use 100% polyester thick thread for double needle edge, 5kg pull test no break, 20 washes no open.
5. Wrong brushing direction: Brush fabric in wrong direction, after wash pile falls and looks old, obvious color difference. We check brushing direction for every fabric roll, pile direction 100% same, no color difference.
6. Heavy lint after wash: No de-lint process, first wash full of lint all over other clothes. All our blankets go through 2 times de-lint process, no obvious floating lint after 10 washes.
7. Color fade: Cheap dye, wash once color fades, dark color stains light clothes. We do color fixation test for dark color before bulk, color fastness ≥Grade 4, 10 washes no obvious fade.
8. Compressed caking: Use recycled fiber, compressed in container for 40 days, becomes hard board after open, no fluff. We use 100% virgin fiber, 6 months compressed rebound ≥90%.
9. Mixed weight in bulk: Sample is 180GSM, bulk production mix 160GSM pieces to save cost. We test every roll fabric GSM before production, AQL 2.5 final inspection, random weigh 10% pieces.

Colour and packing become identification tools in bulk issue

Using several colours in one flannel order increases sorting, carton control and replenishment work. Where destinations or distribution groups require separation, colour, labels and carton marks can work together as identifiers. Where no separation is needed, one approved colour and one packing version are easier to repeat. Individual inner packing should be selected for the storage and issue process instead of being treated as an automatic requirement.

Turn soft touch into a sample-based acceptance record

"Soft" is subjective unless a reference is retained. Keep an approved sample and record the surface construction, base fabric, colour, edge, size, weight basis and care wording. At receipt, compare surface, edge and label with that sample, then check size and weight under the agreed order method. This protects the intended flannel character without relying on absolute marketing language.

Documents, customisation and supply boundaries

The current product line is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified. Applicable SGS documents, product scope, test items and batch are reviewed for the order. We support multi-language care labels to meet different countries import requirements. Colour, size, labels and packing follow the current quotation and approved sample; custom artwork requires lawful buyer authorisation.

We can produce rPET recycled polyester blankets normally, provide third party recycled content test report for each batch. If your project strictly requires GRS factory certification and batch TC, we can arrange it separately with clear extra cost and lead time.

Professional term explanation (save your cost, avoid tricks):
1. Brushing finish: Process to make fabric surface fluffy. Industry trick: Many factories only do single side light brushing to save cost, looks same but much thinner. Double side brushing costs ~8% more, much softer and warmer. Choose single brush for one time distribution, saves ~$0.07/pc, 100,000pcs saves $7,000.
2. GSM (Gram per Square Meter): Fabric weight per square meter, only for after wash finished fabric. Industry trick: Most suppliers quote grey fabric GSM before wash, which is 10-15% higher than actual finished GSM. Always test after wash.
3. Edge finish: Lock edge is cheapest, for one time use; double needle lock edge for 5-10 washes; fabric binding edge for 20+ washes. Choose based on use, do not over pay for binding edge for one time distribution, saves ~$0.1/pc.
4. Color fastness: Resistance to fade and stain. Industry trick: Many factories only test dry rubbing, not wet rubbing, fades when wash. Grade 3 is enough for one time use, Grade 4 for repeated wash, no need Grade 5 for relief projects, saves ~3% cost.
5. Anti-pilling grade: Resistance to form small fabric balls after friction. Industry trick: Many factories only test dry pilling, not after wash. Grade 3 for one time use, Grade 4 for repeated use.

Standard sample & certification policy:
Regular sample fee is 30-50USD/pc, sample fee + shipping cost prepaid by buyer, fully deducted when order over 10,000pcs or total amount over 50,000USD. Sample lead time 3-5 working days.
Our existing standard samples can be sent freight collect, you only pay for shipping, no sample fee.
Project special test/certification (extra SGS items, flame retardant, GRS, anti-bacterial etc) fee prepaid by buyer, fully deducted under same order threshold, official report issued in 7-10 working days.

Flannel identity comes from the face and base fabric

The soft character of polyester flannel results from the brushed face, base construction and finishing together. Procurement should record whether the intended effect is single- or double-sided, pile uniformity, base visibility, edge finish method and target weight. A phrase such as "soft flannel" cannot distinguish a light distribution item from a more stable regular-coverage configuration.

Options from light distribution to regular coverage

A lighter configuration prioritizes unit volume, bulk quantity and issue efficiency. Regular coverage places more emphasis on area, drape and appearance after repeated folding. Buyers can first define users, bed or coverage area and transport limits, then select dimensions and weight basis. We can compare samples and actual weighing results rather than use vague quality grades.

Turning surface quality into acceptance language

Translate appearance into observable checks: brushing uniformity, exposed base, locally thin areas, pressure marks, contamination, holes, edge stitches and corner finish. We can present these points on the sample record and return close-up views with the approved sample. If washed appearance or shrinkage matters, the buyer first defines the care condition and test method so the relevant result can be matched to the order.

Using colour, labels and packing for distribution

Colours, labels and carton marks can separate batches, destinations or receiving units. We can prepare a colour-allocation list, label layout and trial-pack record after the finished specification is selected. Each solid colour or simple pattern remains tied to its physical reference, while carton quantity and folded volume come from the current packing trial rather than another fabric.

Supplier outputs before bulk production

The quotation response should state complete composition, dimensions, weight basis, colour, edging, packing and label fields. Provide an approval sample or first piece before production and review appearance, quantity and packing records before dispatch. SGS testing or OEKO-TEX related documents are matched only when genuinely held and applicable to the exact product and market.

5. Edge pull test: Test edge thread pull strength every 200 pieces, 5kg pull no break. Most suppliers use cheap cotton thread to save cost, we provide edge test record.
6. Double de-lint: Every blanket goes through 2 times de-lint machine, remove all floating lint, no obvious lint on bed or clothes. Most suppliers skip this to save electricity and labor, we keep production record.
7. Dark color fixation test: Test dark color fabric wash fastness before bulk, ensure no fade or stain. Most suppliers skip this to save test cost, we provide color fastness test report.
8. Compression rebound test: Compress 5% samples for 30 days (simulate 40HQ sea transit), open and test rebound rate, adjust fabric if rebound below 90%. Most suppliers only test 1 hour rebound, we provide rebound test record.
9. Final inspection per AQL 2.5: Check size, weight, edge, color, packing, weigh 10% pieces randomly to avoid mixed light weight pieces, support third party inspection. Most suppliers do not weigh pieces randomly, we provide final inspection report.
10. Repeat order re-test: Re-test fabric GSM, size and brushing direction before production, no silent material or craft changes. Most suppliers change material to cheaper one without telling, we provide updated quotation and production plan.
