product description

Lightweight Pneumatic Line Thrower with Folding Hook

for Fire

A portable anchor rescue thrower like this one is a first choice for swift water rescue teams.
Kneeling on the rock beside the mountain stream, the operator aims this compact pneumatic line thrower across the fast water. The anchor hook kit rides in one backpack, so teams that hike into a valley arrive with the whole system ready to fire. Mountain rescue units choose this size because it crosses gorges that a boat cannot reach, and it packs down small enough for a helicopter drop. The kit also fits a standard rescue backpack for fast airlift drops.

Rescuer kneels on river rock and aims red pneumatic line thrower across rushing mountain river

At the rope tower training field, two rescuers rehearse the full anchor hook sequence with the pneumatic line thrower. One fires the line over the tower rail, the other secures the four-claw hook and pulls the rope taut for a high-line transfer. Repeating this drill builds the muscle memory crews need when a real gorge crossing waits on a single good shot. High-line transfers like this are the core drill of gorge teams.

Firing across the green river, the operator shows how this pneumatic line thrower covers a professional flood rescue with one launch. The buoyant cartridge and rope clear the current, and the anchor hook bites into the far bank so the line stays put for the boat crew. Small portable units like this give county rescue teams a full crossing kit without a dedicated launch vehicle. One launch can reach a roof edge or a balcony on a flooded street.

A rescue team deploys the portable pneumatic line thrower in muddy flood water, working down the bank as the rope floats toward the victim. The anchor hook system lets them tie the line to a tree or vehicle once it lands, turning the floating rope into a fixed guide. Government flood-season buyers list this deployment pattern as the main reason they stock portable anchor hook throwers. The anchor hook system is the reason this pattern stays fixed in moving water.

Carrying the kit through a mountain gorge, the rescuer keeps the pneumatic line thrower and the rope pack on his back until the launch point. Because the whole anchor hook set fits one backpack, the team is not tied to a road or a vehicle. That mobility is what makes this unit the practical choice for canyon, gorge and post-storm roads that rescuers must reach on foot. This one-pack design separates portable units from truck-mounted systems.

What Is the Portable Anchor Hook Thrower?
The pneumatic line thrower is a compressed-air rescue device.
This model sits between the simple portable thrower (no anchor hook) and the full anchor hook unit (heavier, 2L carbon cylinder).
It gives you anchor hook capability without the weight of the larger system.
The black gun-style body weighs under 3.2kg.A single operator carries this pneumatic line thrower to the rescue scene on foot , no vehicle, no external air tank.
It fires from a standing position in under 60 seconds.
The folding anchor hook attaches to the projectile nose for building and cliff anchor work, and can be removed for plain water rescue shots.
Working pressure is 6.5MPa, lower than the 20MPa Korean backpack but higher than the 7MPa portable CO2 unit.
This balance means longer range than the simple portable, without needing a heavy external cylinder.
The 45g CO2 cartridges provide the main power, with 16g cartridges as backup for the lifebuoy system.
This is a hybrid tool.
Teams that only do water rescue can use the simpler 170m portable thrower.
Teams that need heavy anchor work on tall structures need the full anchor hook model.
This pneumatic line thrower is for the middle: teams that need occasional anchor capability in a lightweight package.

Each item has a specific job.

The pneumatic line thrower fits the same gear plan as the boat and rope kits.
The pneumatic line thrower is ready on every flood response vehicle.
Buyers often compare the pneumatic line thrower against manual rope bags.
This pneumatic line thrower complies with GB/T 27906-2011 for rescue line equipment.
The land rescue projectile is for anchor hook work , attach the folding hook to its nose and fire at a building ledge or rock outcrop.
The water rescue projectile is for water incidents , it carries an auto-inflating lifebuoy that pops up within 5 seconds of hitting water.
The 45g CO2 cartridges are the main power gas.
They drive the projectile out of the barrel.
The 16g cartridges are for the lifebuoy inflation system inside the water projectile.
Having 8 main cartridges means the team can fire 8+ shots before resupplying , enough for most rescue operations.

The pneumatic line thrower gives every crew a fast line across flood water.

Rescue team deploying pneumatic line thrower in muddy flood water during professional flood and river rescue operations across wide water gaps with reinforced materials tested for repeated rescue missions

Anchor Hook System
The folding anchor hook is the key feature that distinguishes this pneumatic line thrower
Spare cartridges for this pneumatic line thrower ship with every kit.
From the simple portable thrower.
It attaches to the land projectile nose and springs open on impact, gripping building edges, rock outcrops and bridge structures.
With the hook on, you have a rope anchored at height , pull up a haul line or establish a high-line.
Remove the hook and the same launcher fires the water projectile with auto-inflating lifebuoy.
One unit handles both anchor work and water rescue.
This versatility matters for teams that face mixed scenarios , a flood rescue team might need to anchor to a building roof one minute and throw a lifebuoy to a stranded person the next.
The 50-meter anchor range is shorter than the 185-meter land range because the hook projectile is heavier and more affected by gravity.
It is designed for moderate-height anchors , building ledges.
Cliff outcrops within 50 meters, not skyscraper-height shots.
For extreme anchor distances, see the larger anchor hook model (PTQ7-Y150S110Q55) or the long-range series.
Inspect the hook before every use.
Check for bent claws, cracks in the metal, or worn gripping points. the metal, or worn gripping points.
Replace the hook if all claw is bent beyond its spring range. is bent beyond its spring range.
Keep the three claw hook clean and the spring tension checked monthly.

Store the hook in its protective slot in the carry bag, not loose in a compartment.

Rope System: Land Line vs Water Line
This thrower uses two different ropes for two different jobs.
The land rescue rope is rated at 3000N , designed for anchoring and light hauling.

The water rescue rope is rated at 6000N , double the strength, for pulling a person through river current.

Pneumatic line thrower rescuer carrying kit in mountain gorge during professional flood and river rescue operations across wide water gaps with reinforced materials tested for repeated rescue missions

Why Two Different Ropes?
Water rescue involves dynamic loads: a person in full gear being pulled through moving water creates much higher forces than a static anchor on land.
The 6000N water rope gives a safety margin for those dynamic loads.
Using the land rope for water rescue would be dangerous , it could snap under current load.
Spare ropes are available separately.
We advise keeping at least one spare land rope and one spare water rope per unit. spare land rope and one spare water rope per unit.
Ropes get worn against rock edges, soaked in river water, or lost in fast current.

A unit without spare rope is not mission-ready. is not mission-ready.

Rope Inspection and Storage
How do you inspect a rescue rope?Run it through your hands slowly from end to end.
Look for: broken filaments (small fuzz that wasn't there when new).
Flattened sections (where the rope has been crushed), discoloration (sun damage or chemical exposure), and stiff spots (water damage inside the braid).
If you find any of these, retire the rope.
A rope that looks fine on the outside can have internal damage from repeated loading , when in doubt, replace it.
Storage matters too.
Ropes should be kept away from direct sunlight, chemicals, and sharp edges.
The carry bag has a dedicated rope compartment.
Don't toss the rope loose in a compartment with CO2 cartridges or metal projectiles, which can abrade the fibers.
After a water rescue, rinse the rope with fresh water and let it air dry completely before packing it away.
Or muddy water left in the braid will degrade the fibers over time.

CO2 Power System
This thrower runs entirely on CO2 cartridges , no external breathing air cylinder needed.
Rescue teams store the pneumatic line thrower at every flood station.
The 45g cartridges provide the main power to fire the projectile.
The 16g cartridges are for the lifebuoy inflation inside the water projectile.
How does the CO2 system work? When you load a cartridge and close the breech, a piercing pin punctures the seal.
On firing, the CO2 releases instantly.
It goes from liquid to gas in milliseconds, building pressure that pushes the projectile down the barrel.
The 45g cartridges provide enough pressure for the 6.5MPa operating level, launching the projectile at the right velocity for the 185m land range.
The water projectile works the same as other models: a folded ring, a CO2 cartridge and a water-soluble tablet.
When the shell hits water, the tablet dissolves, CO2 triggers, and and the ring inflates in under 5 seconds.
After use, swap the cartridge and tablet to reset. tablet to reset.
CO2 cartridges are consumables.
After each shot, check how many remain.
The carry bag has an internal pocket for spares , keep them organized.
Moisture can prematurely trigger the water-soluble tablets.
Store the bag in a cool, dry equipment room.
Keep cartridges away from heat sources , high temperature increases pressure inside the cartridge, which is a safety hazard.
How many shots per set of cartridges? The 8 pieces of 45g CO2 support multiple launches.
Typical rescue operations need 2-5 shots, so the included cartridges cover most missions.
For extended operations.
Order additional cartridges as consumables.
We recommend ordering at least 10-20% extra cartridges with your initial order, since they are the most frequently replenished item.

Applications
Fire department water rescue teams use this when they need both portability.
Routine maintenance of the pneumatic line thrower takes under five minutes.
A flood scenario might require throwing a line to a person on a rooftop (anchor hook catches on the building edge).
Or to someone stranded in floodwater (water projectile with lifebuoy).
One launcher covers both.
This pneumatic line thrower is the go-to tool for mixed rescue scenarios.
Hiking to a cliff site with a 3.2kg launcher is much easier than carrying the larger anchor hook unit with its carbon cylinder.
The 50-meter hook range covers most moderate cliff anchor needs.
This portable pneumatic line thrower is ideal for teams that hike to rescue scenes on foot.
Industrial rescue teams at dams, reservoirs and water treatment plants use it for both water rescue and structure anchor.
When a worker falls near a concrete structure.
The team can fire the hook to catch on a ledge partway down, then lower a rescue line.
The lightweight design means the unit can be carried anywhere a team can walk.
Swimming area safety and beach patrols also benefit , the lightweight design means the lifeguard station can keep it on hand without it being a burden.
And the anchor hook adds versatility for unusual rescue scenarios.
Let's look at a typical flood rescue scenario.
A residential area is flooded, water level reaching second-floor windows.
A family is trapped on a roof 120 meters across flooded streets.
Too far for a throw bag, and a boat cannot reach due to underwater debris and power lines.
The rescue team carries the portable anchor thrower on foot to a position near the target.
They load the land projectile with the folding anchor hook, fire to the roof edge.
The hook catches on the eaves, they test the anchor, then pull a haul line across.
The family is pulled to safety along the line.
Without the anchor hook capability, they would need to wait for a boat to navigate the flooded streets, which could take hours.
Another scenario: cliff rescue.
A hiker has fallen and is stranded on a rock outcrop 40 meters below the cliff top.
50 meters horizontally from the rescue team.
The team hikes to the cliff edge carrying the 3.2kg launcher.
They fire the anchor hook to the outcrop below, the hook grips the rock, they test the anchor, then lower a rescue line to the stranded hiker.
The hiker clips in.
The portable design made this rescue possible , a heavier 8kg unit would have slowed the hike to the cliff edge.
Is this the right unit? Best for teams that need anchor hook capability in a lightweight portable package. If you only need plain water rescue, the simpler 170m portable thrower is cheaper. If you need heavy-duty anchor work on tall structures, see the full anchor hook model.

How to Use
Step 1 Inspect: Check launcher body, CO2 cartridges loaded, safety pin, and which projectile type you need.
Crews mount the pneumatic line thrower on the boat rail for harbor operations.

Step 2 Load: For anchor work, attach the folding hook to the land projectile.
For water rescue, use the water projectile with lifebuoy.

Teams that hike to the site favor this pneumatic line thrower because the compact anchor hook kit rides in one backpack.
Load into barrel.

Step 3 Aim and Fire: Shoulder the launcher, aim at target, squeeze trigger.
Never point at people.

Step 4 Secure and Recover: Test anchor by pulling firmly.
After operation, recover rope, replace CO2 and tablets, reset.

Safety Warnings
Never point this pneumatic line thrower at people, animals or property.
Keep safety pin engaged until ready to fire.
Test anchor catch before putting load on rope.
Inspect hook claws before each use.
Do not exceed 6.5MPa working pressure.
Wear eye protection during practice.
Proper rescue training required before live use.
CO2 cartridges are Class 2.2 dangerous goods for shipping.
Do not fire the launcher in a direction where the projectile could hit people, animals, or property beyond the target.
The folding anchor hook has sharp claws , handle with care when loading and unloading.
Do not modify the launcher or use non-standard parts. Only use manufacturer-recommended consumables.
In cold weather, CO2 performance may decrease. Allow extra range margin in low-temperature conditions.
After firing, the launcher body may be warm from the gas expansion. Let it cool before handling the breech area.

Training and Drills
A new operator should not fire this pneumatic line thrower at a real building or cliff without practice.
The three claw hook opens on impact and grips rock, concrete or rebar.
Winter teams store the pneumatic line thrower with dry cartridges.
We advise a structured progression: classroom familiarization with all components, dry runs with zero pressure, low-pressure firing at a safe target, then full-pressure drills at a proper training facility. familiarization with all components, dry runs with zero pressure, low-pressure firing at a safe target, then full-pressure drills at a proper training facility.
For fire department teams, this portable anchor hook thrower typically enters service after operators have completed water rescue certification.
The unit itself is simple to shoot, but the rescue work that follows. fire, but the rescue work that follows.
Anchoring the rope, establishing the high-line, pulling a victim to safety , requires technical rope rescue skills.
This pneumatic line thrower is one tool in a larger rescue system.
Annual recertification covers: equipment inspection, CO2 cartridge check, projectile type selection, live firing at a simulated anchor target, anchor load testing, and emergency troubleshooting (what to do if the hook misses.
What if the rope tangles or the CO2 fails to inflate).
How long does training take? For operators who already have water rescue certification, the thrower-specific training takes about 4-8 hours: classroom familiarization (1-2 hours).
Dry runs with zero pressure (1 hour), low-pressure firing practice (1-2 hours), and full-pressure drills at a training facility (1-2 hours).
New operators without prior rescue training need more time , the thrower is just one tool in a rescue system, and the rope work that follows requires technical skill.
What does a typical drill look like?Scenario: a training dummy is in the water 50 meters out, and a building edge 30 meters up is a potential anchor point.
The team practices: load the water projectile, fire to the dummy, confirm the lifebuoy inflates, then switch to the land projectile with anchor hook, fire to the building edge, test the anchor.
This progression builds the muscle memory for switching between water rescue and anchor work.
Key points to confirm before the first shot: remove the safety pin before firing, aim correctly for close targets, check the hook claws before firing, and keep the rope spool clean during flight.
And letting the rope spool tangle during flight.
Training should explicitly cover these error modes , what to look for, how to correct them, and how to recover if a shot goes wrong.

Who Buys This Portable Anchor Thrower?
Most commonly ordered by: fire department water rescue brigades; mountain rescue teams; flood relief organizations; industrial safety teams at dams and reservoirs; and beach safety organizations that want versatile equipment.
The pneumatic line thrower works with standard CO2 cartridges.
This pneumatic line thrower is a popular choice for teams that need anchor capability without the weight of a full system.
Less common: harbor patrol (they prefer the American gun); recreational clubs (over-specified); offshore rigs (they need long range).
If you cannot decide between models, email us your scenario and we will advise.
Let's break down the typical buyer profiles in more detail.Fire department water rescue brigades
Buy this unit because it combines two functions in one lightweight package: water rescue (with auto-inflating lifebuoy) and anchor hook work.
Instead of carrying two separate devices , a water rescue thrower and a separate anchor hook system , they carry one unit that does both.
At under 3.2kg.
It is light enough to carry on foot to a flood scene, and the 185m range covers most urban river rescue scenarios.
Mountain and cliff rescue teams
value the portability.
Hiking to a cliff site with a 3.2kg launcher is manageable; hiking with the larger 8kg anchor hook unit (with its external carbon cylinder) is not.
The 50-meter anchor hook range covers most moderate cliff anchor needs , building ledges, rock outcrops within 50 meters, and bridge abutments.
For higher anchors, they need the full anchor hook model.
But this portable unit handles the majority of their day-to-day scenarios.

Flood relief organizations
deploy this in flood zones where the terrain is impassable by boat.
A victim on a rooftop 100+ meters across flooded streets can be reached by firing the anchor hook to catch on the building edge, then establishing a rope line.
The lightweight design means rescue teams can carry it on foot through flooded areas where vehicles cannot go.
Industrial safety teams at dams and reservoirs use it for both water rescue and structure anchor.
When a worker falls near a concrete dam structure, the team can fire the hook to catch on a ledge partway down, then lower a rescue line
The 50m anchor range is enough for most dam face heights.

Maintenance Schedule
Fitting a buoy cartridge into the launch cylinder

The pneumatic line thrower fires clean after months in storage.

When

What to Check

Before each use

CO2 cartridges, safety pin, hook claws, rope condition

After each use

Clean unit, replace spent CO2, recover projectiles

Monthly

Seal condition, hook spring, rope fraying, bag zipper

Annually

Full service, replace aging seals

Regular maintenance keeps this pneumatic line thrower ready for service.
After each use, wipe down the launcher body with a damp cloth, check that no grit or debris has gotten into the breech mechanism, and inspect the hook claws for bending or wear.
If a claw is bent, the hook will not grip properly , replace it.
The carry bag zippers should be checked monthly; a failed zipper means the gear falls out during transport.
Store the unit in a cool, dry equipment room.
Keep it away from direct sunlight and chemical storage areas.
CO2 cartridges should be stored in their own compartment, not loose with metal parts.
That could damage the cartridges.
A properly maintained unit will be ready when you need it , and in rescue work, "ready when you need it" is the whole point.

Yes , this is a key advantage of the convertible design.
For water rescue, swap the anchor hook projectile for the standard water rescue projectile (with auto-inflating lifebuoy).
For cliff or building work.
The launcher body stays the same; only the projectile changes.

This means a technical rescue team carries one launcher for both rope-access and water incidents.

The folding hook is designed for repeated use.

Rescuer carrying portable anchor hook pneumatic line thrower backpack on rocky mountain gorge trail during professional flood and river rescue operations across wide water gaps

How is this different from the PTQ7.0-Y150S100 portable thrower?
The PTQ7.0-Y150S100 is a pure water rescue thrower at 3kg, 170m land / 120m water.
This unit adds the anchor hook (50m anchor range) and extends land range to 185m.

The trade-off: the simpler unit has no hook and is slightly cheaper.

Buy this one if your team faces both cliff/building anchor work and water rescue; buy the simpler one if water-only.

What training does a technical rescue team need?
Because this unit fires both an anchor hook (for rope access) and a water rescue projectile, operators need two skill sets: high-angle rescue certification (for hook placement and rope work).
And water rescue certification (for line throws over moving water).
The thrower itself takes 1 day to learn; the rescue skills behind it take weeks.

We include a familiarization session on delivery.

What consumables should a hiking rescue team carry?
Because this unit is carried on foot, weight matters in spares.
Recommended minimum kit: 4 spare 45g CO2 cartridges, 2 replacement hook claws (the claws bend on impact with rock), 1 seal kit.
That fits in the side pocket of the carry bag.

The 16g cartridges are used for the water projectile , carry 4 of those as well.

How does CO2 performance hold up in mountain temperatures?
CO2 cartridge pressure drops at low altitude , below freezing, expect 10-15% less range.
For mountain rescue teams operating at altitude in winter, we recommend carrying 2 extra cartridges per shot rather than relying on a single cartridge.

The launcher body works fine in cold; it is the gas output that drops.
